You can choose to rent a long-tail boat at certain beaches in Thailand in order to explore other parts of the coastline. At some beaches, they are essential, as they represent the only way of gaining access to a host of delightful islands.
Here we provide are a number of tips about hiring one in case this is your first trip to Thailand.


HUA HIN

This Thai town is 200 km from Bangkok and is famous for being one of the favourite retreats of the Thai Royal Family.  

It has an excellent infrastructure for tourists and a large number of resorts and condominiums, in fact many Bangkok city dwellers have their holiday homes here.  It is sun and sand destination on the Gulf of Thailand.

Khao Lak is a tourist destination on the Andaman Sea that stretches along a coastline of approximately 25 km. Amongst its attractions for tourism are its long, quiet beaches, its proximity to several paradisiacal islands such as Tachai, Surin and Similan, and also to the Khao Sok National Park which make it a wonderful place for all types of activities to do with nature.

The archipelago of Ko Chang lies in the Gulf of Thailand, near the Cambodian border, a little over 300 km from Bangkok. The main island is one of the largest in the country, of a size that makes using a car for transportation quite appropriate. There are numerous resorts where you can spend your holiday, many of them on the shoreline.
The beaches have crystal clear waters and generally less crowded than other more famous destinations.

Ko Lanta is an archipelago in the Andaman Sea with a population of nearly 30,000 inhabitants. Less well-known than its neighbours, Ko Phi Phi and Phuket, you can nevertheless find excellent beaches and beautiful unspoilt open spaces. Access is by boat, by means of ferries if you want to take your own vehicle.


KO PHANGAN

Ko Phangan is halfway between Ko Samui and Ko Tao, both in terms of its geographical location and is size.  It is a peaceful place but one which also hosts a world-famous electronic music venue:  the Full Moon Party.


KO PHI PHI ISLANDS

This archipelago in the Andaman Sea is a marvel of nature.
The two largest islands are called Ko Phi Phi Don and Ko Phi Phi Leh, the former being the only inhabited one. Access is by boat from the island of Phuket and also from Krabi, the nearest town on the mainland.
Ko Phi Phi Don has two beaches but its main function is to serve as docking area for boats carrying tourists on outings to enjoy its heavenly settings and crystal-clear waters.


KO SAMET

Ko Samet is a small island located in the Gulf of Thailand, not far from Bangkok. Its quiet and family-oriented beaches play host to locals and tourists from other countries alike. It is elongated in shape and resembles a stiletto heel, while inland it has dirt roads that lead down to the various beaches and coves. A quad bike is the most suitable means of access, or even better, try sailing down the coast by boat.

The island of Samui is one of the most developed tourist centres in Thailand with a whole range of services on offer to enjoy great sun and sand holidays. The island has its own airport but you can also reach it from the mainland via Chumpon or from Surat Thani, the provincial capital. 


KO TAO

Ko Tao or ´Turtle Island´ is a small, mountainous island in the Gulf of Thailand, with a population of just over 1,000 inhabitants. Access to the island is by boat from the coastal town of Chumpon or from the nearby isle of Ko Samui.
It is a tourist destination specialising in diving, with many schools catering for beginners or offering underwater excursions for more experienced divers.


KRABI & AO NANG

 Krabi and Ao Nang are in a great geographical location to reach many of the best beaches in Thailand, either taking a day trip or for an overnight stay.

There is also a commercial airport near to the coast so that you can literally fly in the morning and be down at the beach in the afternoon, making it a very popular destination. 

Although Ngai island belongs to the province of Krabi, we have included it in the video on the Trang islands.
